EXPOSED: Sex, scandals and sleaze

Touted to be high on sex and sleaze, the Marathi film 'Chitrafit 3.0 Megapixel' is making waves across the state. The much awaited film, inspired by a real-life MMS scandal, is all set to release on the big screen this Friday. But the buzz around the film was so strong that the trailer of the bold film has already crossed the mark of 1 lakh views on YouTube in the span of one week. The bold film directed by Divakar Ghodake exposes the sensitive issue of sexual abuse, pornography and exploitation of high-end technology as a practice.

The film stars 'Chak De! India' girl Seema Azmi and Ashish Pathode in the lead roles. It also features actors Ravi Patwardhan, Gauri Shankar, Shefali Maydeo, Dansing Rajput, Mike Hevan, Nerav Soni, Vinita, Mahesh Rale, Isha, Sachin Kabir, Vipul Patil, Meenal Chirankar, Komal and Suhas Shirsath among others. 'Chitrafit' has invited comparisons with Bollywood’s ‘Ragini MMS’ due to the similarities in their plots. But according to director Divakar Ghodke, the film cannot be compared to the 2011 Bollywood hit as it is not an MMS film like the earlier.

In an interview given to the website glamsham.com, the director said, “I can’t comment the other MMS films because every director and producer has their own way of portraying the film, and moreover I am not calling Chitrafit an MMS, I am calling it a video clip. So it is completely different from other films and it is not MMS based. Even I have worked aesthetically on it. You will not see MMS, sex and all, you will see a beautiful journey in it and it will entertain you from starting to end. You will remember it as the story that is totally different from other stories.”

Oscars are considered as the highly prestigious awards for any movie-maker around the world. For many, it’s a dream to achieve a nomination in any of its categories; but for debutant director Divakar Ghodake, there is nothing innovative about the Oscars. Apparently, Ghodake has received credits for about 17-18 films that had been nominated for the celebrated awards. These include films starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt.

Ghodake informed, “I have also worked as a senior technical director in the films like 'The A-Team', 'Moneyball' and 'The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor'. I have also received credits for ‘Golden Compass’ and ‘Yogi Bear’ that were nominated for the Oscars. Golden Compass won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2007.” So if the director’s debut film ‘Chitrafit- 3.0 Megapixel’ will also manage to reach to the race of the Academy Awards, only time will tell.
