Films based on the life of Savitribai Phule which were supposed to begin by August this year, havent seen the light yet Five films based on the life of revolutionary Savitribai Phule were announced earlier this year. Considering the number of projects in the pipeline, filmmakers
Jabbar Patel and Rajdatt backed out and cancelled their projects. However, the other three projects were still in progress.
While actress
Tejaswini Lonari was finalised as the lead in the film made under her brother Shivam Lonaris production house, actress Smita Shevale was roped in by filmmaker Vijay Rahane for his project. After the successful stint with
Mee Sindhutai Sapkal,
Tejaswini Pandit was signed on by filmmaker SK Sha Latta for the same.
All the three films, with Tejaswini Lonari, Smita Shevale and Tejaswini Pandit, as Savitribai, were supposed to go on floors by August this year. However, due to constant anticipation none of the films have gone on floors yet. Filmmaker SK Sha Latta is currently in Delhi finalising on the location for a different film.
When asked about the delay in the project revolving around Savitirbai Phule, he said, I was busy with the film
1857-Tatya Tope which I will be making in five languages Hindi, Marathi, English, Tamil and Telugu. Besides, I intend to complete
Tere Khayalon Mein (You Feel My Love) first. I shall start
Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule by the end of this year. It will be made in Marathi and English.
He further informed, I had registered the title and subject way back in 2009. There was litigation about it and for all I know, all the other projects are stopped. In fact I am also preparing for the television serial on the subject.
Denying the claims of litigation, filmmaker Vijay Rahane says, Savitribai Phule is a universal subject and is very vast. More than 50 films can be made on her life. There is no question about registering the subject.
He had announced his film
Dnyanjyoti Savitribai Phule around the same time. He was supposed to begin the film in July, but the schedule got postponed. The schedule of our film is postponed due to the rains. And we are doing the film for sure. When I work on some film I give it my 100 per cent. My project is taking time because I want to be sure about the smallest of the details. Most of the other filmmakers who have postponed their schedules are actually waiting for the grant amount from the government.
Actress Tejaswini Lonari isnt bothered about all the speculations and says, Our film is taking time to start only because we are trying to collaborate with some international company. It can help us execute the project on a larger scale.
