Actor Suyash Tilak began his climb up popularity charts with his work in Marathi serials and films. His outstanding performance in 'Classmates' made everyone sit up and take note of his acting skills.
In our second edition of #Staroftheweek, ETimes caught up with him to chat about his upcoming film 'Hashtag Prem', his Bollywood debut with Maqbool Khan's 'Khaali Peeli' and much more.
Excerpts:
You've worked in a lot of films and portrayed different characters. Tell us about your character 'Baban' in 'Hashtag Prem. 'Baban' is a very interesting character and it is every bit similar to my character. What is used to behind the camera, I got an opportunity to do it in front of the camera. He is someone who is very positive and comes from a well-cultured background.
How was it collaborating with Rajesh Jadhav?I got 'Hashtag Prem' because of our Choreographer Ashish Patil, who had narrated the story and I liked it. I love travelling and fortunately, there is a road trip in the film. I love to watch simple love story films and I am very happy that I got the chance to do this film.
Tell us something about your equation with Mitali Mayekar...We have been friends for a long time. She is a very talented and amazing co-star. She is very spontaneous and I got a lot to learn from her. She is playing a character a Sanika, who is very vibrant and someone who is influenced by social media. She has done a fantastic job.
You made your Bollywood debut with Maqbool Khan's 'Khaali Peeli'.Yes, 'Khaali Peeli' was a very special film and it was released on the OTT platform during the lockdown. I was disappointed because my first Bollywood film 'Khaali Peeli' didn't release on the big screen. I was not expecting 'Hashtag Prem' to see a big screen. So, it's a very special film because this is my first film after marriage.
Do you like this trend of films releasing on OTT?I feel that our audience should take a step to decide what kind of content they want to watch in Marathi. If our audience is clear about watching films on a big screen then our filmmakers will make films accordingly. Until and unless our audience is not clear, things will remain unchanged.
How do you look back at your journey in the film industry so far?I think I was fortunate for the kind of work that has come my way. I have also been fortunate to have worked with actors and directors who have been so helpful and talented.
What kind of role you would love to explore?I don't have any specifications but I definitely have some idealistic figures in my mind. I would love to play characters like 'boy-next-door' and grey-shaded.
You and Aayushi Bhave got married this year... I got married to Aayushi Bhave and I think that was the best decision of my life. The best part of our relationship is that we are very good friends. So, Yes, I am very happy and blessed to have Aayushi as my life partner.
