Shreyas Talpade on producing ‘Mardini’: 'I thank Subhash Ghai sir for it'- Exclusive
The motion poster of Shreyas Talpade’s upcoming Marathi film ‘Mardini’ was recently unveiled, giving audiences a glimpse into what promises to be an intense and emotionally driven story. The film, slated for release on July 3, 2026, marks yet another significant step in Talpade’s journey as a producer, a role he says he has grown deeply passionate about.
In an exclusive conversation, Shreyas opened up about how his journey into film production began and why the creative process excites him just as much as acting today.
“To be very honest, I’m loving every moment of it,” Shreyas said, expressing gratitude to filmmaker Subhash Ghai. “I thank Subhash Ghai sir for pushing me and my wife, Deepti, into production with our first film, ‘Sanai Chaughade.’ After that, yes, we haven’t produced much, but whatever we have produced, touch wood, God has been kind, and we’ve received a great response to all of it.”
Known primarily as an actor, Shreyas admits that he once believed nothing could surpass the thrill of performing. He relayed, “Earlier, I used to feel there is nothing that can beat acting. But production is slowly inching towards that ‘which one is better’ space,” he says with a smile. “As actors, we go on set, do our part, learn our lines, deliver our dialogues, and step away because you don’t want to interfere with the director’s or producer’s work. But as a producer, you’re thinking about every little aspect of filmmaking and the film business. That’s very exciting.”
He also added that the anticipation surrounding a film’s release is unmatched. “The whole excitement of making a film, releasing it, and then waiting for people to react to it, that feeling is very satisfying and amazing," he admitted.
The film boasts a strong ensemble cast featuring Prarthana Behre, Jitendra Joshi, Abhijit Khandekar, Mayra Vaikul, and Rajesh Bhosale. Calling it a “phenomenal set of actors,” Shreyas credits the team for bringing depth and credibility to the narrative.
‘Mardini’ is directed by Ajay Baikar, marking his debut as a feature film director after a successful stint in television. Shreyas highlights that nurturing new talent has always been a core philosophy of his production house. “With our first production, we introduced Sai Tamhankar, Chinmay Mandlekar, Shruti Marathe, and Anita Date, all of whom are big names in Marathi cinema today. We are extremely proud of that.”
He continued, “With our second film, we introduced Sameer Patil as a director and Pushpam Gawde as a DOP."

Shreyas Talpade talks about his journey as producer
For Shreyas, production is not just about backing a film but about being involved in every stage of its making. “It’s the entire process, like selecting a story, developing it, and getting actors on board, along with writers and a director. Then you see it slowly take shape, you begin shooting, and eventually go through post-production. That entire journey is something I’m totally falling in love with," he explained.Known primarily as an actor, Shreyas admits that he once believed nothing could surpass the thrill of performing.
