Having a buffalo as a major character in his film came to Dnyaneshwar Govekars mind when Anil Pawar narrated the story for the film 'Chandi'. The film, which has been adapted from the novel Mhais written by Pu La Deshpande, is based on a true incident that took place in the writers life. In fact, this story is very popular in Marathi community all over.
Hence, I decided to go ahead with making this film, shares Dnyaneshwar, who besides being the assistant director is also the producer of the film.
Talking about the challenges he faced during shooting for the film, Dnyaneshwar says, It was a challenging job for us. We gave our best and of course we were well appreciated by the Deshpandes family. We first screened this film for them. Shradhanand Thakur, who accompanied Pu La Deshpande through the journey, also appreciated our efforts. Describing the incident that made Pu La Deshpandes write the original story, he says, The story titled
Mhais is about the chaos created by the buffalo- Chaandi, when she comes under a ST bus, which is going to Mumbai, through a small village in Konkan.
Dnyaneshwar had earlier produced the film
Hello! Gandhe Sirwith noted Marathi actors
Bharat Jadhav and
Dr Girish Oak. This film also has got noted Marathi actors in it, he delightedly informs, I assisted director Sameer Naik in this film. It was a great experience to learn something new. The film was shot in Goa.
We had actually explored three to four places in Maharashtra for a location that would suit our story. Unfortunately, we could not find any such place. We finally found the right location in the interiors of Assnora in Goa. We were looking out for a rural village where there was no hot mixed road and lights, explained Dnyaneshwar who lives in Dona Paula. He adds, I have also incorporated local artistes to give them a boost.
