Marathi film Hou De Jara Sa Ushir might get a chance to compete in the Best Film nomination category at the Oscars, if the film gets appreciated by the jury members. The film has been directed by debutant filmmakers Wasim and Tahir Maner. Wasim reveals: We are confident about our film and wanted a global audience. Having got an entry at this level proves that language is no barrier to compete on such a huge platform. The film which is based on three people working in an IT firm and their lonely battle to balance life and work is yet to be released in Maharashtra.
Producer Abhijeet Gholap who has acquired the rights for distribution of the film says, There is an option to send your film in the mainstream category at the Oscars. The makers of Hou De Jara Sa Ushir, Wasim and Tahir, availed that option, after which they were asked to send documents like a written application, a 35 mm print of the movie for assessment. They luckily got through the first level which qualified the film for a screening along with 300 other world films at a theatre in Hollywood, which will be the second testing ground. Out of these 300 films, 200 selected ones compete in the final round for the nominations. The only condition for the selection at the first level is that the film has to be screened overseas for a week. That is taking place at California between November 16-22.
