Biswajit Chatterjee

, once celebrated as the romantic hero of Bollywood confessed that he considers himself as a proud Maharashtrian and even went on to add that blockbuster Marathi film '

Sairat

' has influenced him to know Maharashtra's culture better. The agile octogenarian star was in Nagpur recently and he waxed eloquent on the path-breaking success of Marathi films and he had no qualms criticising the Bengali film industry where his son Prosenjit Chatterjee is hailed as a superstar.

'Hat's off to Marathi film industry,' says Biswajit and adds, 'Who would have thought earlier that a Marathi movie would do business of Rs 100 Crore with a very simple script, but 'Sairat' did it. I like watching Marathi movies and I have seen many films and if given an opportunity, I would love to work in Marathi cinema,' said Biswajit.

Speaking about his friends in Marathi film fraternity, the 'Bees Saal Baad' star said, 'I am fond of Nana Patekar and I have watched his film 'Natsamrat' and his performance really touched me. When asked about the position of Bengali cinema today, he said, 'Bengali cinema has crushed post Satyajit Ray's death. Most

of the films made in

Tollywood

are copy of South Indian movies and I find their scripts unrealistic.' Speaking about his favourites in Tollywood, he said, 'I miss Suchitra Sen a lot, she was a dear friend and the face of Bengali cinema, on the current generation, I admire Nusrat Jahan whom I find brilliant and equally beautiful.'
