Move over sizzling Marathi mulgis. Item boys are the new flavour in M-Town. With filmmakers experimenting, its the boys turn to turn the heat on with their jhatkas. Director V Amitas film Shikhar (under-production) will see actor
Bharat Jadhav in a scintillating dance performance to the tunes of
Bang Detoy Kombda. And the latest addition to jump on to the item number bandwagon is Jitendra Joshi, who had essayed the role of a saint in his last release.
The actor will now be seen moving to some sexy dance steps with Tejashree Khele to Aaiaiyyo in producer Abhijeet Gholaps
Bharatiya.
Even the newcomers in M-Town are not shying away from making their debut with an item number. Actor Nilesh Sabale will be seen romancing 10 leading television actresses in the song Bai Bai Lajalu Bai from the soon-to-be-released Navra Mazha Bhavra directed by Kamlakar Gunjal. According to filmmaker Amita, there is a constant need to do something different. Female item numbers have become common. A male centric item song arouses interest. The songs are expected to garner a wider audience rather than restricting it to just the male audience.
Sabale adds, Item songs are complete entertainers. So whether its a girl doing it or a guy, it should not make any difference. I really dont know how the audience will react to my song, but Im hoping for the best as I have put in a lot of effort to learn the moves.
Though most of these songs also feature the female leads in the film, the focus certainly is on the male actors this time. Gholap says, The item number has a love angle so it also has Khele dancing with Joshi. Musicians Ajay-Atul have given catchy lyrics and rhythm to the song which has earned it 1.5 lakh hits online already!
However, choreographer Deepali Vichare admits that male centric item songs require a completely different treatment. Its rare to find male actors who are also good dancers. So most of the time you have to keep all your creativity with the moves limited to only females. The song Bai Bai Lajalu Bai is a dream sequence in which Nilesh who is shown to be a shy prospective groom in the film is surrounded by girls teasing and wooing him. So it was easy to choreograph his moves, says Vichare.
Actor Amruta Khanvilkar finds the concept quite interesting. Its not like item songs are a girls domain. John Abraham and Akshay Kumar looked quite dishy in Desi Boyz. M-Town also has good looking men and they have a large fan following. So it would surely be fun. I would like to see Riteish Deshmukh in an item number. Actor-director
Mahesh Manjrekar is equally impressed. He says, Finally the liberation seems to have have come a full circle. It will definitely be good eye candy for the girls.
