When we informed Jyoti Subhash that Rajkumar Santoshi is planning to adapt Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamya Nai, into a film, she was both surprised and elated. Jyoti, who has been a part of the play when it was staged in 2004 in Pune, said, 'It is a good thing that this film is being made and the story is not only very close to my heart but also one of the best plays that I have been a part of.' Jyoti essayed the role of Mai in the play.
Expressing her desire to be a part of the film she said, 'If I am not engaged elsewhere, I will certainly love to act in the movie in case the filmmakers want me to.'
The play is about a Muslim family that flees to Lahore after partition and is given refuge in a haveli, owned by a Hindu family. The play sees Mai, the matriarch and the sole occupant of the haveli, going all out to protect them.
