Marathi
cinema's art director Raju
Sapte
has died by suicide. According to the reports, Raju allegedly took his life due to harassment by a person associated with
Labor Union
.
Before committing suicide, Sapte made a video at his home in Pune explaining why he took this drastic step. On Monday, (July 5), Several filmmakers and art directors from the Marathi entertainment industry held a protest outside Mumbai film city seeking justice for his death.
Etimes got in touch with Marathi cinema's popular filmmaker
Girish Mohite who shares a close bond with late art director Raju Sapte. Expressing his grief, Mohite said "I know Raju since my college days. We were together in Sir
J J School of Art
. He was not the kind of person who can give up life so easily. He was very hard working and always took care of his workers. I have never seen indulging in any politics or gossips"
"I have worked with very few art directors in my career.
Santosh Phutane
and Raju Sapte were part of my several projects. I think today, everyone is saying that he would have shared his heart with me and all. I think what he was going through, he only knows it. Nobody is realizing why he took this drastic step. There are several complaints against Maurya and I think the police didn't arrest him because there was no evidence against him. I am not supporting suicide but Raju did not commit suicide, he sacrificed his life for others" Mohite added.
