Happy Independence Day 2020: 'Bal Gangadhar' to 'Ek Krantiveer: Vasudev Balwant Phadke'; Marathi movies that pay tribute to the heroes who fought for our freedom
India is celebrating its 74th independence this year and it is a proud moment for every citizen. August 15 is auspiciously celebrated not just by us, but also by Marathi cinema.
Several movies have been made on our fight for freedom and heroes who have made us proud since the historic moment. On the occasion of Independence Day, we bring to you movies that pay tribute to the heroes who fought for our freedom.
'Shaheed Bhai Kotwal'
Eknath Desle and Parag Sawant's directorial 'Shaheed Bhai Kotwal' released in 2020 was based on a true story of Shaheed Bhai Kotwal (played by Ashutosh Patki), who was born as Vitthal Laxman Kotwal, Bhai was a social reformer and freedom fighter who followed the socialist philosophy.
He became a martyr in 1943 when he was shot by a British officer while on an underground mission.

'Krantiveer Rajguru'
'Krantiveer Rajguru' directed by Ashok Kamle made a biopic on the legendary freedom fighter Shivram Hari Rajguru. It revolves around his struggles and his journey till the day he gave away his life for this country's independence. It featured stars like Chinmay Mandlekar as Rajguru along with Pankaj Vishnu, Suhasini Muley, and Vilas Chavan.

'Bal Gangadhar Tilak'
Om Raut’s debut directorial ‘Lokmanya, Ek Yugpurush’ was based on the life of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who was an Indian nationalist, teacher, social reformer, journalist, lawyer and freedom fighter. Subodh as Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak did justice to the character, which elaborated on Tilak’s hard-hitting writings against the rulers, which lands him rigorous imprisonment of six years, outside the country in Mandalay, Burma.

'Ek Krantiveer: Vasudev Balwant Phadke'
'Ek Krantiveer: Vasudev Balwant Phadke' is a biopic of revolutionary Vasudev Balwant Phadke directed by Gajendra Ahire. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ajinkya Deo, Ramesh Deo, Chandrakant Gokhale, Sonali Kulkarni and others. Set in the pre-independence era, the story revolves around Vasudev Balwant Phadke and his struggle against the British.
