Guru Purnima Special: 'Ashok Saraf' to 'Shreeram Lagoo', stars who aced the roles of Gurus in Marathi movies

Guru Purnima is celebrated to honour the contributions made by the teachers to the society. This year, this auspicious day falls on Sunday. Many films highlighted the teacher-student relationship beautifully. On the eve of Guru Purnima today, here, we have drawn up a list of Marathi stars who brilliantly portrayed the role of teachers on screen.

Marathi cinema's veteran star Shreeram Lagoo has portrayed the role of a Guruji in many of his films, one of which is V.Shantaram's tragic tale 'Pinjara'. Lagoo played Shridhar Guruji, a small-town teacher, who acts as a moral compass for the community.

Ashok Saraf's role as headmaster in Marathi film 'Nishani Dava Angatha', was very much appreciated by audience and critics. The story of the film was based on the novel of Ramesh Ingale Utrradkar which brings out the irony about the Government's literacy campaign which aims at achieving 100 per cent literacy rate in the villages of Maharastra.

In the film, Atul plays the role of a courageous teacher, who guides students to channelize their anger in a positive way.

Nilu Phul is one of the prominent actors in the Marathi film industry. Nilu's performance in 'Gaon Tasa Changala' as a 75-year-old retired school teacher is worth watching on this Guru Purnima. The story follows a 75-year-old retired school teacher, Satpute and his desire to re-open the school with or without the help of the lax sarpanch.
