From Nehha Pendse, Sai Tamhankar to Addinath Kothare; Marathi celebs who made the headlines in 2019

The world of show business has always attracted talent from its regional industries, especially Marathi film actors. The lives of these Marathi stars are definitely one to be of envy, but any celebrity will tell you that it is no bed of roses either. Being in the limelight 24x7 has its downsides of being under constant scrutiny. The social media frenzy has without a doubt, added to their woes. More the year slowly coming to a close, we already have so much to remember. We take a look back and list the names of some Marathi stars that have made headlines.

Chunky Panday

Bollywood cinema's popular star, Chunky Panday who is well known for his eccentric roles is now all set to make his debut in Marathi cinema with upcoming film 'Vikun Taak' helmed by 'Poster Boyz'fame Sameer Patil. Recently, the makers of the film unveiled the first look poster from the film on the social media handle. Chunky, 57, was at the peak of his career in '90s with hits like 'Teezab', 'Vishwatma' and 'Aankhen'. He switched to comedy roles in the 2000s and went on to star in 'Kya Kool Hai Hum' and 'Housefull' series.

Nehha Pendse

Nehha Pendse has always made headlines for her epic transformation and her sizzling pictures. But recently actress, who is dating Shardul Byas and had recently made her love life public, is all set to tie the knot next year on January 5, 2020, in Pune. While talking to the TimesofIndia.com, the actress confirmed the news and said, “Yes I am getting married on January 5th next year. It is going to be a close-knit affair. Only my inner circle of friends are invited to the wedding. The reception and wedding will happen on the same day Jan 5th. The wedding function will begin from January 3 with Mehendi, sangeet and on Jan 4th we will exchange rings. All the functions will happen in Pune.”

Addinath Kothare

The 66th National Film Awards in for the year 2018 was announced in August, and many Marathi films, 'Naal', 'Paani', 'Bhonga' and 'Chumbak' have been honoured with the esteemed award. Actor-director, Addinath Kothare whose debut directorial 'Paani' bagged The Best Film on Environment Conversation award. The film is co-produced by Priyanka Chopra. Apparently, the film story veers around a man living in a village named Nagdarwadi, which is in Maharashtra's drought-prone Marathwada region.

Sara Shrawan

Marathi actor Sara Shrawan was arrested by Pune police's Crime Branch from Mumbai in connection with a Rs 15 lakh extortion case, an official said on Sunday. The 'Rang He Premache Rangeele' actress is also known as Sara Sonawane, is the fourth arrest in the case. According to the police report, "One of the accused had tried to broker a settlement in the molestation case filed by the woman actor, as part of which Yadav recorded a video apologising for his act. The accused demanded Rs 15 lakh from Yadav in return for not making the video public,"

Sai Tamhankar

Sai Tamhankar, Sonalee Kulkarni and a few other Marathi actors faced flak on 15th November 2019, when they simultaneously tweeted a message which seemed to be about the prospect of mid-term elections in Maharashtra. The actors were apparently promoting a film, but the Congress and NCP lashed out at them, questioning if this was being done at the behest a political party. "Punha Nivadnuk?" (elections again?), Tamhankar, Kulkarni, Siddharth Jadhav and others tweeted. With no party being able to form a government after last month's polls when Maharashtra was under President's rule. The actors are promoting their upcoming film 'Dhurala', a political drama. Their tweet was not about the political situation.

Pravin Tarde

Marathi cinema's popular actor-director, Pravin Tarde met with a major accident on August 28, 2019. The incident took around 11 pm on a sharp turn in front of Mahadev Temple in Saswad. While speaking to Etimes, Pravin said "It's miracle we survived. I was travelling with assistant director Vishal Chandne and actor Ramesh Pardeshi and we were returning from our upcoming film 'Sarsenapati Hambirrao' location and there was no reflective signboard on the road with complete darkness. We survived just because of airbags and seat belts. Currently, I am busy with my shooting schedule in London, but after returning from London, I am personally going put up a reflective signboard near the temple to avoid future recurrence"
