Sameer Joshi is sure to have an exciting year as two of his films - 'Choomantar' and 'Medley' - are ready for release. In a recent chat with us, he opened up about his cinema choices and more...
Interestingly, the prolific director shot both these projects in London. However, while 'Medley' was wrapped before COVID-19 outbreak, 'Choomantar' began and completed after the lockdown.
"I now hope that movies hit the theatres soon and are appreciated by the cinegoers," says he, adding, "I must clear that 'Choomantar' is not really the sequel of 'Medley'. You can call it the second instalment. The actors are the same and both the stories veer around the life of a young boy played by Shrinivas Pokale. However, 'Choomantar' is not a continuation of 'Medley'."
'Choomantar' is simultaneously shot in two languages Hindi and Marathi. "The basic motive to make a bilingual film is to have a wider reach. The film's story is quite relatable and can go beyond Maharashtra. Also, I didn't intend to dub the film. I believe, when you dub or put subtitles, audiences are distracted and the real emotions are not conveyed well. Thankfully, the actors Prarthana Behere, Suvrat Joshi,
Rishi Saxena etc, have a good hold over Hindi language."
Ask the filmmaker about his favourite genres and he replies, "I like to present various hues of human emotions. People strongly relate and connect to emotions. So, the third outing that is still in it's pre-production will highlight a deep human emotion." Joshi has also an exciting thing in his wish list. "I would like to make a period drama. But for the kind of scale it requires, one needs to dedicate time and do a thorough research. Period dramas are really exciting," says he on a parting note.
