Anant Mahadevan’s directorial Marathi film starrer Tannishtha Chatterjee-
Doctor Rakhmabai
’s official trailer has been released and it is creating quite a buzz online. The film buffs are really appreciating the teaser. After ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’, ‘Dr Rakhmabai’ seems to be the essential period film in Marathi language. The film is a biopic of Doctor Rakhmabai, India’s first female doctor who practiced in India. The obstacles she faced and her journey towards getting education and using it for the welfare of India are aptly reflected in the one-minute trailer of the film.
Tannishtha Chatterjee is one of the most prolific and respected parallel cinema actresses in India. Though she had previously worked in a Marathi film called ‘Sunrise’, but the film didn’t release officially in India. Hence in a way her first recognisable performance in Marathi would turn out to be ‘Doctor Rakhmabai’.

The film also stars Marathi actors Prasad Oak, Santosh Juvekar, Kavita Lad & Bharat Dabholkar. Technically the film looks sublime and the whole period seems to be perfectly created. Interestingly, one of Anant Mahadevan’s previous Marathi film was also a biopic of a very important woman, ‘Sindhutai Sakpal’.
What is interesting to note here is that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amruta has lent her voice to one of tracks of the film, “Jeevanta Aahe”.
