You ask any grandparents in this world about who they want to see most of the time throughout the day? Every grandparent would say, their grandchildren.
In 1970,
Marian McQuade
initiated a campaign to establish a day called the
National Grandparents Day
, and in 1978 President
Jimmy Carter signed a federal proclamation declaring the first Sunday after
Labor Day as National Grandparents Day.
The relationship between grandchildren and their grandparents is considered to be one of the most beautiful bonds. A similar kind of bond is shared between actor
Bhushan Pradhan and his maternal grandmother. The actor says that he has very strong and special connection with his Naani. “I lost my paternal grandparents when I was very young, then I lost my maternal grandfather, it’s just my Naani, who I have spent most of my childhood and adulthood with,” expressed Bhushan.
Talking about how amazing his naani is, he says, “My naani is way ahead of her time. She has a very pragmatic approach. She is not someone who would constantly spoil you, if she knows that you have done something wrong then she will punish,” shares Bhushan. Recalling one of his childhood memories about being punished by his naani, he says, “I had seen adults in the family sweeping dried leaves in the backyard and collecting it at a spot and putting them on fire. So, I was really young, and I did exactly that, without being scared about the fact that fire can be dangerous. My naani, was really angry with this behaviour and punished me. She asked me to sit at one spot the whole day, and I did, because I was so scared. So, she can be strict when you are doing something wrong,” says the '

Bhushan has learnt a lot from his naani and reading is something that he has picked up from her. His naani is an avid reader and loves to read a lot. In fact her reading pace is quite something according to the actor. “During Ganpati, I brought some books from my grandmother and they were quite a few and by the time I was supposed to go back to Mumbai, she had already finished quite a few. And, I was like naani, slow down. Next time when I came to Pune again, I got more books and I told her, don’t start reading them until leave,” laughs the '

Bhushan strongly believes that every kid must have a special connection with their grandparents because they give you so much unconditional love and support. “Our parents generally don’t have enough time, especially the ones who are working. Kids need 100 per cent love and attention and I feel only grandparents can give that to you. I considered myself really lucky that I have my naani. In fact, I feel that all those people who have their grandparents from both sides are truly blessed,” concludes Bhushan.
