star like Bhau Kadam in a role that evokes shades of the human experience and the challenges that the new director took on. “It took Bhau Kadam a while to get into this character, which needed a different pulse rate altogether — spanning white, grey and then black. However, the actor totally submitted to the character, adds the director. “This is why he is loved so much — he gives his full conviction to the role and becomes that.” More than Kadam’s celebrity status, it was the actor’s innocent eyes and his ability to emote with a blank face that made Gole want him to play the role of Baban. “Everyone that I had in mind when I started writing the script is in the film,” says the screenwriter and director.
