Director

Raj Gupta

, who makes his debut with the upcoming film

Baba

, is a Nagpur lad and for him,

Marathi

was never a problem.

Raj has earlier been an assistant director on Tanu Weds Manu, but when it came to his full-fledged debut, he chose a Marathi film. Ask him the reason and he replies, "The story of the film is such that I thought it would resonate way better with Marathi viewers."

Baba, which releases on Aug 2, has many firsts to its credit. Besides being Raj’s directorial debut, the film also marks Sanjay Dutt’s foray into Marathi film production, and actor Deepak Dobriyal’s Marathi debut.

Deepak, who has acted in Tanu Weds Manu and Hindi Medium before, was an obvious choice for the title role. Raj shares, "Deepak is close in age to the character of this film. Yes, the Marathi industry has a lot of good actors but none fit the age-bracket I was looking at. So, I asked Deepak and he agreed to do the film."

The teaser of Baba released today and it shows a beautiful relationship between Deepak's character and that of his Aryan Meghji, who plays his son in the film. "The film is sure to strike a chord with families because the subject is of a universal bond of love between a father and his kid," adds Raj.
