As the film completes 4 years of its release on April 29, here are five lesser-known facts about the film

Nagraj Manjule directed romantic drama 'Sairat' was a blockbuster in the Marathi film industry. It marked the acting debut of Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar. The story is about how a fisherman's son and a local politician's daughter fall in love and what consequences they face while holding on to each other.

What makes it worth watching, however, is Nagraj Manjule's 's unique storytelling, lead actor's performance, brilliant technical team, Ajay-Atul s music etc. As the film completes 4 years of its release on April 29, here are five lesser-known facts about the film:

First Indian film to record music at Hollywood

Nagraj Manjule's 'Sairat' is the first-ever Indian film, to record its music at Sony Scoring Studios in Hollywood, LA where the musical baton was wielded by the composer duo and siblings Ajay-Atul. Many who have heard 'Yaad Lagla, Sairat Zhala Ji' , 'Aattach baya ka' and the 'Sairat' theme have been floored by their marvellous orchestration.

Rinku Rajguru's debut Marathi film

Maharashtrian actress Rinku Rajguru, who hails from Akluj in Solapur, received a Special Mention from the jury for her stellar portrait of Archie aka Archana, the fearless female protagonist in the critically-acclaimed and audience-approved film, 'Sairat'. She was only 14 during time of filming and had no prior experience in acting makes her accomplishment even greater.

Akash Thosar's debut film

Akash Thosar became popular for the role as Prashant Kale or 'Parshya' and became star overnight with huge female fans. He has also worked in popular shows such as ‘Chala Hawa Yeu Dya’ and others.

The highest-grossing Marathi film ever

Reportedly, the movie collected Rs 25 crore in its first week. Hence, this is also the highest opening week collection for a Marathi film ever. Produced by Zee Studios, Nitin Keni and Nikhil Sane, the romantic drama raked in 44 crores in its first 12 days. Also, it is the first time a Marathi film has earned more than 40 crores surpassing the lifetime earnings of such hits as 'Natsamrat', 'Katyar Kaljat Ghusali', 'Timepass 2' and 'Lai Bhaari'.

Screened at Berlin International Film Festival

A tale of innocence, rebellion and never-say-die spirit, the film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival too. It was the official selection for the 66th Berlin International Film Festival where it received a standing ovation.
