Naseeruddin Shah turns 68 today. The three-time National Award Winner is very well regarded in the Indian film industry and has plenty of roles which have made a mark. On his birthday, we revisit the Marathi movies in which he featured.
The legendary actor’s debut in Marathi movies started with
Deool
, a 2011
Umesh Kulkarni directorial. Naseeruddin had an important cameo in the movie where he plays a man claiming to be a dacoit hiding in the village. According to a report in Pune Mirror, Umesh had even offered Naseeruddin a role in hismovie Valu, but he refused stating he was not comfortable with the language then.
Besides Deool, Naseeruddin recently featured in
Nude
in the role of a well-known artist. Although it was not said expressly by the film makers, but they had dropped hints pointing to the fact that his character might have been inspired by M.F Hussain.
In our previous interviews, we had even asked him if he plans to do a full-fledged role in a Marathi movie. However, he said that he is waiting till the time he’s able to speak the language fluently. Ask him about his Marathi teacher, and he says its none other than his wife and well-known actress
