Nana Patekar was born Vishwanath Patekar on 1 January 1951 in Murud-Janjira in Raigad District, Maharashtra. He was born to Gajanand Patekar, a small textile printing businessman, and Nirmala Patekar, a housewife. He is an alumnus of the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. Nana Patekar starred in the Marathi film 'Deool', released on 4 November 2011.
In 2014 Nana starred in another Marathi film, 'Dr.
Prakash Baba Amte - The Real Hero', directed by Samrudhi Porey. Starring
Sonali Kulkarni, it was based on a true story. Patekar did some playback singing in the films 'Yeshwant' (1997), 'Wajood' (1998) and 'Aanch' (2003).
