Shubh Lagna Savdhan Movie Review

Critic's Rating: 2.5
Story: Aniket (Subodh Bhave) is in love with Rucha (Shruti Marathe), but he is against the concept of marriage. With a hope ofochanging his stand, Rucha tricks him into attending her cousin’s wedding.

Review: Shubh Lagna Savadhan shares quite a few similarities with Hum Aapke Hai Koun, especially when it comes to the family drama in the film. However, the storyline is more relatable to the present day scenario.

Aniket and Rucha are settled in Dubai. Since Aniket is against marriage and Rucha wants to get married, she takes him to attend her cousin Ira’s (Rewati Limaye) wedding in Igatpuri, India. The events that unfold during this destination wedding for the crux of the film.

The basic concept will strike a chord with youngsters who have a similar thought process or are confused about getting married. But director Sameer Surve fails to flesh it out as a story and isn’t able to weave it into a coherent film, mainly because the movie gets caught up in focussing on the wedding ceremonies more than anything else. Had the director focussed on the characters and their sweet yet complex relationships, the film could’ve been a better watch.

Some scenes have been stretched unnecessarily and the similarities this film draws from the HAHK makes it predictable.

As for the performances, Subodh and Shruti have a great chemistry and the high points of the film are in scenes featuring the duo. The other pair, Ira and Rohan (Pratik Deshmukh), have a comparatively less screen time. While Rewati is alright, Pratik, despite sincere efforts, fails to make a mark.

To make an entertainer involving an Indian wedding is a tricky task. Too much drama can make you bored and too less of it will do the same. It is important to establish a balance and Shubh Lagna Savadhan struggles with that.

Having said that, this film is a fairly alright watch for those who like family dramas. Others could think about giving it a miss.
