Copy Movie Review: Copy fails to go beyond the obvious

Story: The film exposes the corrupt state of affairs of the education system in rural Maharashtra. Between teachers taking bribes to the step-motherly treatment of rural schools by education authorities, it is the students who bear the brunt of it all. Review: With a thought-provoking storyline revolving around the education system in rural Maharashtra, the filmmakers have a film that has it's heart in the right place. However, they fail to connect the dots, making hardly any impact on the viewers. The film is based in a village in Maharashtra where there’s supposedly only one school. Some of the school authorities are highly corrupt and allow students to cheat in the examination to show that they have 100 per cent result. Why? To earn remuneration from the government. The students lack basic knowledge in subjects like Math, English and Science. But among the corrupt authorities are two teachers who are willing to go the extra mile to impart knowledge among the children. Three youngsters from a working-class family are willing to learn, but their background and the situation in the school poses hurdles in their way. Copy looks at how some teachers put money before the welfare of students and how this ends up producing youngsters who are unaware of basics of education. Some scenes are impactful and deliver a strong message for teachers, students and parents. The depiction of the aspirations of kids and their struggles is noteworthy too. But as a complete film, Copy fails to go beyond the obvious and doesn't strike a chord with the viewers.
