Mithun

Story: Set in Kudal, a small town in Satara, the movie follows the life of a young couple in love.

Review: The two halves of this movie seem like they belong to different genres – love story and political drama. By the time it ends, you cannot decide exactly on which of these two sides the film leans towards.

Mithun (Vishal Nikam) and Kanchi (Amruta Dhongade) are in love and they slyly keep staring whenever they cross each other’s path, neither confesses their love. Until Kanchi takes a bold step by tattooing Mithun’s name on her hand venting out her feelings. So far good, but the director Prakash Pawar takes very long time to establish this.

After some clichéd romantic scenes, the movie arrives at the interval hinting at violence that is to follow in the second half. Dirty politics, a corrupt police official torturing the protagonist at the behest of the town’s political big-wig is what the second half deals with. Although it does have a link to the budding romance between our lead pair, it has not been fleshed out well. Focusing on either of the subjects or handling both in layers would have been a better idea. Instead, the simplistic treatment of these topics ends up giving justice to none. Moreover, the movie appears stretched towards the end.

In the acting department, all the artistes have performed with utmost sincerity but there is no character that stands out. Even Jaywant Wadkar, who has played Mithun’s father has done better previously.

The film lacks originality and fails at execution as well. It just ends up being just another in the list of many unappealing love stories. Structuring the story line better may have helped, but in its present form, this one can be given a miss.
