Dharmaveer 2

Review: In many aspects, this film is in the same segment as its predecessor. A biography that is also very much a political drama. One that is still playing out one might add.

Anand Dighe is at the centre of the highpoints in the film. His portrayal by Prasad Oak is rousing and applause worthy. The stories of how this headstrong leader fought against the problems faced by common man inspires much praise. Oak’s portrayal combined with some well-executed scenes give viewers something to cheer for.

The story is structured around events in the run up to a party split, and the mistreatment and compromises that senior party workers endure at the hands of a coalition government are given particular importance. These serve as the ground for Eknath Shinde’s (Kshitish Date) memories of his mentor and how he responded to problems in his day. But, while Kshitish Date does a fantastic job at portraying Shinde, the character's presence in many places seems forced.

This film is positioned as a biography, but it is clear in its message in the run up to the upcoming state elections. Some highlights of the film are the music, Mahesh Limaye's cinematography and Tarde's direction.

One of the major drawbacks of the film is the dip in the pace due to the focus on the split. In the end, the biopic ends up being more about current politics than the leader at the centre of the story. But, if you are willing to neglect the current affairs in the story, Dharmaveer 2 is an entertaining watch.
