Delivery Boy

As a topic, surrogacy has been addressed through films in multiple languages, the recent example being Mimi, a remake of the Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy. These films and the discussions around this topic have made surrogacy a commonly known term. Yet, there are misconceptions and misunderstandings about the practice among a lot of people. Through Delivery Boy, filmmaker Mohsin Khan, with writers Ram Khatmode and Vinod Vanave, explores the concept through a comedic lens.

The story of the film revolves around three characters, primarily. Estate-agent and local tapori Digambar (Prathamesh Parab) who along with his sidekick Chochya (Prithvik Pratap) is a master of jugaad, and Dr Amruta (Ankita Landepatil), who dreams of starting a fertility clinic in the village, are the lead characters of this film. To help Dr AMruta fulfil her dream, Digambar and Chochya help find a space for her clinic. Soon, when they understand the concept of surrogacy, these two also turn 'agents' to find women who are ready to be surrogate mothers. However, their new initiative isn't as easy as it looks and the film thus becomes a result of their efforts, failures and more.

Surrogacy isn't a light-hearted topic but the makers try to spread awareness about it in a funny and entertaining way. They succeed momentarily but Delivery Boy ends up being a good story with more potential, hampered by poor execution. The actors deliver their roles well with Prathamesh and Prithvik delivering the punches while Ankita handling the balanced, emotional aspects. But there's not much they can do to help the film as a whole. That said, the performances are what also make this film watchable. If you're willing to sideline the treatment it gets, Delivery Boy could be a decent watch, if not entirely great.
