Sachin Warrier has many hits to his credit as a playback singer and composer. In a few days, he will also release his independent single Thedal, which features
Mamta Mohandas as singer and actress, Sachin as singer and composer and Anu Elizabeth Jose as lyricist. A project that had to deal with the pandemic restrictions during its making phase, Thedal had its several challenges at various stages too.
An excited Sachin tells us more about it.
“Thedal’s director Sachin Ramdas’ brief about it was what attracted me to it first,” says the musician, hinting that the song’s theme is about “moving on, after a relationship ends”. Sachin continues, “Getting the idea for a video with an urban backdrop, the specialties of its visual language, and doing a song based on that can be quite interesting and challenging. It also helped me apply many things I have observed and learnt so far.”
He says the production process involved a lot of trial and error. “Over months, we recorded many instruments and tried various arrangements. Also, after I had completed composing the song the first time, visuals were shot with this version and also edited. But we felt the need for a few changes in music and that was done. So, on and off, such a back-and-forth process was on till the final version was out, but it was quite interesting,” says Sachin.
Interestingly, Mamta was initially approached as a guest vocalist for the project. But, she really liked the song and agreed to be part of its video too. “As Thedal is an independent, non-film project, a space that she was interested in, she was onboard. When she expressed willingness to be part of the video as well, we saw it as a very positive sign. We recorded it in Chennai the past December and shot the video in Dubai and Los Angeles, all of which benefited from a collaboration with her,” Sachin says.
The post production work of the video, like many other projects, got delayed quite a bit due to the pandemic restrictions. Sachin says, “We were in the editing phase when Covid-19 struck. The post production work got stretched because of the same, but we went with the flow and did whatever we could. After all, it’s something that affected the entire human race.”
Sachin, meanwhile, also has quite a few projects coming up both as a singer and composer. “Due to the current situation, I am not in a position to reveal much about them. But, I am hoping to work on a few more singles,” he concludes.
