Rahul Raj’s ‘Anjali Prananjali’ musical tribute for SPB

It is sung by Haricharan
Mollywood

composer Rahul Raj

composes a song titled ‘Anjali Prananjali,’ as a tribute to singer S P Balasubrahmaniam, who passed away a few days ago.

The song, that goes ‘Gaanam Urangi, Kaavyam Urangi,’ in Malayalam, is sung by renowned Tamil vocalist Haricharan. The track, which is a melody with shades of sorrow, also has a few portions inspired by the late singer’s hit songs, like ‘Ilayanila.’ It also gives a few glimpses into the videos of his hit Tamil tracks like ‘Sundari Kannal’ and his association with musicians like ‘Ilayaraja.’

The song is written by Rajeev Govindan. The video of the song is directed by Magesh Kolleri, and has Nachiket N as editor. It has acoustic guitar and bass by Sumesh Parameswar, and flute by Nikhil Ram.

It is on September 25 that the legendary playback singer cum actor passed away in a hospital in Chennai, at the age of 74. In August this year, he was hospitalized after testing positive for Covid – 19, and after doing well for a few days, his condition had worsened. Later, on September 4, he had tested negative as well, though the virus affected his overall health condition. While many in South India prayed for his health and recovery, the artiste passed away, leaving behind about 40,000 songs across 16 languages, for us to remember him.

SPB has also acted in a handful of movies, like ‘Manathil Uruhi Vendum,’ ‘Kaadhalan,’ ‘Keladi Kanmani’ and ‘Sigaram.’ He has also worked as a music composer in films like ‘Sigaram.’
