Onam song Kuttapi is about a boy chasing the tales his grandfather told him

Onam is a time when, apart from festivities and family get togethers, Malayalis are treated to the most anticipated film releases. This year, of course, with the

pandemic

protocols and restrictions in place, Onam is pretty low key, but some beautiful

nostalgia

inducing songs have been released on social media.

After all, who hasn’t heard stories recounted by their parents and grandparents of getting together with cousins and playing all day or gathering flowers for the athapoo. Songs from music composers Vidhyadharan Master and Ratheesh Vega for the festival season tug at this sentiment of nostalgia. Vidhyadharan Master has composed and sung Onamaanu, the Ratheesh Vega number has been sung by Anne Amie.

There is also an

Onam song

by independent musician Pranav Sunil, which was released on social media by actor Unni Mukundan. The song, titled Kuttapi, is written, composed and sung by Pranav and also has a nostalgic quality about it. Beautifully picturised with Onam themes of family togetherness,

Kuttapi

has a bittersweet quality about it, with a lonely boy roaming around with a lotus bud and trying to find the flowers for his athapoo. The song, which has the quality of a folksy, children’s ditty, is about a boy, Kuttapi, who looks to recreate the nostalgic Onam stories that his grandfather told him and transports you to a simpler time.

The lovely visuals, which are an old world feel to today’s ambience, is shot by Sangeeth Palazhi and Franklin BZ. The editing is by Sanish Sureshbabu. Kuttapi is portrayed by Abinesh Anilkumar.
