Kerala has film festivals, a theatre festival and an arts biennale, so it was probably high time that the State got its own music festival. On Friday, a prominent group of musicians, filmmakers and actors, among others, came together to launch the Kochi Music Foundation.
“It’s a venture that a few friends have been discussing for a couple of years. It will be a festival that brings together different branches of music, seminars and lectures for students,” said composer
Bijibal at the live launch on social media.
The festival also aims to put together a library. The inaugural programme, Karuna, will take place on November 1 with the participation of musicians from south India. The founder members include Bijibal,
Shahabaz Aman, Sayanora Philips, filmmaker Aashiq Abu and actor Rima Kallingal, among others.
