International Nurses’ Day: A rap track to celebrate our new-age warriors
They have always been angels of mercy but today, nursing professionals are also frontline
Indulekha says, “The incredible work they do despite various challenges has been all over the news for more than a year. That’s what inspired me and my team to come up with this rap track. It presents their efforts from their point of view, and that’s why I wanted to line up a few young nursing professionals as well in it.” Thrissur’s Government College of Nursing students Sreeraj P, Devika S Nair, Arjun K and Sujisha P P are the ones who have joined her in the rap. Video choreography is by Rajesh Raj and editing is by Lijo Paul.
Due to the ongoing lockdown, the artistes and others collaborating for the rap video couldn’t meet with each other.
Sujisha says that though many people say nurses are angels, they will also not spare a chance to criticise them. “As mentioned in the song, we too undertake abundant risks keeping many personal matters aside. It would be great if people take a moment to think about it and I guess that’s what the track helps listeners do.” Devika says, “We had the challenges of pandemic restrictions in the making of this video. But getting to be part of such an initiative, as a nurse, for nurses, felt great.”

says, “All of us individually recorded our parts on phones and combined them at the editing table.” The artiste, whose dad and actor Jayaraj Warrier had also contracted Covid-19 sometime back, says, “It was unlike a regular video shoot or audio recording session. Even the choreography was done online. The steps were recorded and sent to the students, and they practiced over video calls. There were challenges, but our team felt it’s the least we could do to appreciate nurses’ efforts at this time.”Sujisha says that though many people say nurses are angels, they will also not spare a chance to criticise them. “As mentioned in the song, we too undertake abundant risks keeping many personal matters aside.
