I wanted to rediscover myself as an artiste through Sayahname: Ranjini Jose

The album was released a few days ago

Like many artistes, singer Ranjini Jose too went through some “dark spaces” while the world shut down entertainment spaces in 2020. But, from the space was also born something melodiously hopeful - a song, titled Sayahname, which the singer also co-wrote with B K Harinarayanan.
The track shows minds that escape into all things beautiful even while being trapped in high-rises in the Covid era.

It has been garnering some great responses and Ranjini considers it a big honour. “We put our heart and soul into it and it took a lot of work. So, it feels great to hear positive comments,” says Ranjini.
Sayahname, a track made mixing many genres, has music by Charles Nazareth. The singer tells us how the song came into being, “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t travelling for the past 20 years and so, this year was tough. I went through some dark spaces and many messaged me saying they too were experiencing the same. That’s when Charles opined, ‘let’s do a song,’ and we decided to go for it. When I spoke to Harinarayanan, he offered to write the lyrics. As the song is about me coming out of a dark place, I co-wrote it. I wanted to rediscover myself as an artiste, and not forget what I am. And that’s what I have written in the song.”

Interestingly, while the duo only thought of a sort of self-made lyrical video for the song, its video director Manu Hassan happened to hear it by chance and offered to put together its visuals. Ranjini says “He did the story, storyboard, screenplay and more and we absolutely trusted him. Charles and I didn’t even ask him what the story was, but he and his team worked together to coordinate our beautiful visuals.”
What’s next for the artiste? “We hope movies and performances start in full swing soon, but going forward, I am also planning more original songs,” she says, signing off.
