Famous movies rejected by Malayalam superstars

Certain films have their own fate. It is initially approached to some actor, but on refusal it is given to other actor. We list down some Malayalam superstars and the films that they rejected.


Kunchacko Boban


Naren's role in 2006 blockbuster film Classmates was first offered to Kunchacko Boban by director Lal Jose. But Kunchacko, who took the decision of taking a break from films and focus on his business, reluctantly refused the role. The other two movies refused by Kunchacko were also later offered to Naren, which made him a household name in Malayalam film industry. Those films were Prithviraj starrer Ayalum Njanum Thammil (2012) and Mammootty-Dileep starrer Proprietors: Kammath & Kammath (2013).

Fahadh Faasil


Talented and new age superstar of Malayalam film industry, Fahadh Faasil has always been choosy about the films he does. Many films were offered to him and he rejected it. More films rejected by him were later on done by Prithviraj. Some of those films are Sapthamashree Thaskaraha (2014), Double Barrel (2015) and Ivide (2015).

Mammootty


M-town's very own Mammootty, reportedly, has the record of rejecting most movies. Most of the roles he rejected were subsequently done by Mohanlal. Some of the popular films Mammootty rejected are Rajavinte Makan (1986) done by Mohanlal later. Mammootty was also approached for the Mani Ratnam directed Tamil Film Iruvar (1997) to play the role which was later done by Prakash Raj. Ekalavyan (1993) done by Suresh Gopi later, Run Baby Run (2012) done by Mohanlal later and Memories (2013) done by Prithviraj later are some of his other rejections. The blockbuster film of 2013, Drishyam which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of Mohanlal’s career was also offered to Mammootty earlier. Mammootty, reportedly, refused due to date issues but fully supported the film and urged fans to watch it.

Dulquer Salmaan


The young handsome actor Dulquer, before making his Mollywood debut, was offered a role in Shyamprasaad directed 2009 film Ritu. But he refused the offer as he felt he had to learn more about the cinema before venturing into it. He even did a short term film course. Dulquer even refused the sequel of his father Mammootty's 1990 release Samrajyam; Samrajyam II: Son of Alexander. He reportedly stated that he doesn't believe and enjoy working in remakes and sequels.

Mohanlal


The CID series of Sethurama Iyer from the film Oru CBI Diary Kurippu which became a milestone of Mammootty's career was initially offered to Mohanlal. He reportedly refused the offer because he felt that the role is not suitable for him. Mohanlal was even offered the role of the main villain Adiseshan in Rajinikanth’s Sivaji The Boss that released in the year 2007. But he refused it and the role went to Suman.

Dileep


Jayasurya's hit film Chathikkatha Chanthu's first choice was Dileep. But Dileep walked out of the project due to unknown reasons. National Award winning role of Suraj Venjaramoodu in the film Perariyathavar was also offered to Dileep. Films rejected by Janapriyanayakan Dileep were surprise hits and well appreciated by the Malayalam audience.

Prithviraj


Rumour has it that after debuting in Bollywood, Prithviraj was all set to be part of Farah Khan's Happy New Year, but he couldn’t do it due to an offer of a negative role for the Tamil film Kaaviya Thalaivan (2014). He reportedly even rejected Lal Jose directed Diamond Necklace (2012), which was later done by Fahadh Faasil. He was even offered Vyshakh directed Mallu Singh (2012), for which he even did some photoshoots, but later it didn't work out and the role was done by Unni Mukundan.
