Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah’ emerged as one of the most talked-about Malayalam blockbusters of 2025. Ever since its release, audiences have been waiting for the second installment, and guess what? It’s happening!
Kalyani Priyadarshan has recently confirmed that she will return for the second installment and also revealed when it will go on floors.
“The writing is going on. We should start shooting by, hopefully, September. I’m there in the second part, so wait for it,” she said while speaking at a public event recently.
‘Lokah Chapter 2’ will revolve around Chathan, played by Tovino Thomas. Dulquer Salmaan, who is both acting in and producing the franchise, earlier revealed details about ‘Lokah Chapter 2’. He dropped a poster and said, “Beyond myths. Beyond legends. A new chapter begins. #LokahChapter2. Starring Tovino Thomas. Written & Directed by Dominic Arun.”
What you should know about ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’
Helmed by Dominic Arun, ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’, featuring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role, hit theaters in August 2024. The film featured her as Chandra, aka Kalliyankattu Neeli, a spirit from Kerala folklore. The film also featured Naslen, Sandy, Chandu Salim Kumar, and Arun Kurian in supporting roles. The film earned over Rs 300 crore at the worldwide box office, a first for a Malayalam film.
TOI ranked the film 3.5 out of 5, and the review reads, “Lokah is more about gradual but consistent world-building rather than instant payoffs. It lays the groundwork for a superhero cinematic universe in Malayalam cinema, and it does that with sincerity.”
Upcoming ‘Lokah’ installments
The ‘Lokah’ franchise is planned as a five-part series inspired by local myths and folklore. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter India earlier, the director said, “We have an idea of the whole picture. We have a Bible for the next four as well. It's not just the next four, it’s actually how everything started. It's the origin that we have.”
He added, “If you've seen Neeli's origin story, we have every origin story and what has happened over the past 10,000 years laid out. We need to connect it to the present. We know how this is going to end. We know the main plots that will happen in the upcoming films, but we are yet to work on the screenplays for all four. We just have a vague idea of everything that's going to happen. We are specific that certain things will happen, but how it's going to happen, we still need to sketch that out.”Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
