Mani Ratnam’s directorial ‘Raavanan’ is a crucial film in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s career. Every actor in the country wants to work with
Mani Ratnam, and only a few get the opportunity to, and
Prithviraj Sukumaran is one among them. He essayed one of the lead roles in the Tamil film ‘Raavanan’ alongside Vikram and
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But did you know that people barely recognized him on the sets of the film?
Yes, that’s right. Though Prithviraj Sukumaran was a leading star in the South cinema during that time, the crew of ‘Ravanan’ was mostly from Hindi, as the film was also being shot in Hindi. In an earlier interview with Mashable, Prithviraj Sukumaran said that all of them (crew) obviously knew who Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, and Vikram were, however, they had no idea who he was. “I could hear them in hush, saying, ‘I don’t know, must be good because Mani sir has cast him’,” he recalled.
Prithviraj Sukumaran added that he was this ‘little lamb’ on the set, and it was a huge learning curve for him. He also stated that it meant a lot that Mani Ratnam saw potential in him.

‘Raavanan’ released in 2010, simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi won hearts for all the right reasons. Prithviraj Sukumaran essayed the role of SP Dev Prakash Subramaniam in the Tamil version. He romanced Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
On the work front, Prithviraj Sukumaran was recently filming for his highly anticipated directorial ‘L2: Empuraan’, which is the second installment of his film ‘Lucifer’ released in 2019.
