Malayalam superstar Mammootty made his Bollywood debut with the 1993 action drama Dhartiputra, marking a unique chapter in his career. While the film did not achieve significant commercial success, it remains noteworthy for featuring a rare Holi song picturized on the legendary actor.
The track Saare Rango Se Ha, composed by the iconic Nadeem-Shravan duo, was a vibrant celebration of Holi, emphasizing themes of renewal and embracing life’s colors. The song, which paired Mammootty with Jaya Prada, stood out for its festive visuals and emotional depth, highlighting the festival’s spirit of leaving behind past struggles.
The video song ‘Saare Rango Se Ha’ is still getting much love from the Malayali audiences. One netizen wrote, “Mammootty rocked. Everyone knows he is a rough male and can not dance a single either. But the handsome man rocked simply with the inflexible movements of that alpha body language and tough energy. Imagine Clint Eastwood also.” മമ്മൂട്ടി. the face of indian cinema (At a time when Amitabh Bachchan reigned supreme, there was only one name from Malayalam cinema who went to Bollywood and played a main role in a film – Mammootty. The face of Indian cinema.)” A third one wrote, “How beautifully our Mammukka dances! There is only one actor in this world who excels in acting across all languages, and that is our pride – Mammukka!.”
Directed by Iqbal Durrani, Dhartiputra was a high-octane action drama featuring Mammootty as Kapil Dev Singh, a fearless police officer taking on corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. The ensemble cast also included Rishi Kapoor, Jaya Prada, Sujata Mehta, Farah, and Nagma in pivotal roles.
