Viral challenges that were lit by M-Town celebs

While the world is happy to show the door to 2020, the lockdown will perhaps be remembered for creating new ways for people to connect with each other. And an online challenge was one such. In Kerala, celebrities joined in and even started challenges. Sometimes they were fun, and sometimes political or social statements and sometimes - like with the ‘hand emoji challenge’ - just a bit of lockdown whimsy. Here are some celebrity challenge hashtags that were trending in the State…
Viral challenges that were lit by M-Town celebs
Women Have Legs

Probably one of the most discussed and debated - and change-making - hashtags, it started with a photo that actor Anaswara Rajan posted wearing shorts.

When men felt they needed to advise her in a brotherly way about sticking to more modest clothes, actor Rima Kallingal shared a swimsuit shot taken by filmmaker-husband Aashiq Abu`, writing, “Surprise, surprise, women have legs”, and a ‘challenge’ was born with hundreds of women across the state posting photos happily flaunting their legs

An international challenge against domestic abuse of women, this too, started with our popular women actors, like Rima, Mamta Mohandas and Grace Antony, sharing B&W photos.

It did not take long for it to grow into a social media ‘movement’ of sisterhood - women supporting women - in the State.
Neeraj Madhav’s Pani Paali

So, everyone encouraged singing and dancing to keep spirits up in these grim times, but Neeraj Madhav literally had the young and old in Kerala dancing to his tunes. The actor released a hip hop single, titled Pani Paali, and showed some cool dance steps to go with the track. Soon enough, toddlers and grandparents, and actors, were sending in videos showing off their moves.

Green India

Gardening took off in a big way and proved a fruitful, colourful way to beat the stress. This was a pan-India hashtag and celebrities were challenging each other to show their green thumb. Young actors Kalidas Jayaram, Kalyani and Anupama Parameshwaran, among others, happily shared pictures of their saplings.
Hand Emoji
Ok, so this was just a bit of cuteness, but many found that it wasn’t as easy as it looked. But Nazariya hit it out of the park, getting it spot on, while husband Fahadh Faasil just sat by looking amused.

Music Challenge
Musicians used the lockdown for serious and fun activities. Many of our top cinema composers and singers released some amazing tracks at this time when cinema was in lockdown. And as some fun on the side, they challenged each other. Check out composer Kailas Menon's #entheinnumvanneela challenge.
