Vikruthi director Emcy Joseph's uses rap for message on new film, Ennittu Avasanam

Rap

seems to be the artistic medium de jour in the State. Ever since the lockdown, rappers have blasted into the scene, bringing messages of caste discrimation, environmental hazards and other socio political issues, and seemed to have touched a chord with Malayali music lovers.

Director Emcy Joseph is the latest to tap into the trend with a promotion video for his upcoming film,

Ennittu Avasanam

.

Rejection rap

starts out in the typical hard-hitting manner of the genre and speaks about the problems faced by aspiring artistes. The artiste is so frustrated by the taunts that he faces in society, which mocks him for being a failure, that he is set to take the extreme step, but there is a bit of hope glimmering in the horizon.

“Here the protagonist is deeply frustrated and agitated after facing many rejections from his own home, society, and even in the movie auditions. Finally, he's taking a step to end all these struggles and manipulations.. but there the real twist comes in,” suggests the statement accompanying the song. The rap is written by Yadu and Nithin, who also performs it. Appu Prabhakar is the DoP, while Sooraj ES is the editor.

Vikruthi director

Emcy Joseph’s upcoming film Ennittu Avasanam, has actors Anna Ben and Arjun Ashokan in the lead roles and also marks the return of Roja actor Madhoo to Malayalam after six years. The film is apparently a feel-good story. It is set to start shoot in mid February.
