Vijay Yesudas turns cop to chase Dhanush
Singer Vijay Yesudas is on an experimentation mode. The latest we hear is that the handsome hunk is turning actor for the Tamil film Maari. What’s more, he will be seen in the character of a firebrand police officer, opposite his real life buddy Dhanush. “I don the khaki for my character as Sub-Inspector Arjun, who wants to put an end to the unlawful activities of a local slum rowdy, Maari, played by Dhanush.

I don’t want to reveal more about my role. Let it be a surprise for the audience,” says Vijay, adding that even putting on the police uniform gave him a feeling of power.
“I have watched a number of movies of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith and Vikram where they play fire-brand police roles. Vikram’s iconic cop role, Saami, is also my favourite. I guess there is something alluring about khaki. But I don’t want to compare myself with anyone else and have done what the director said,” he says.
The singer says that he was initially apprehensive of taking up the role. “It was director Balaji Mohan who roped me in for the film. He believed that I could handle the role very well and it was his confidence in me made me say yes. But I thoroughly enjoyed my stint as an actor,” he says.
And how was it sharing screen space with Dhanush? “We are close friends, but yes, when in front of the camera, we are two professionals.” What about his father’s (Yesudas) response to his new role? “He is happy about it and doesn’t interfere in my choice. All that he said was to take care of my voice.”
Quiz him about signing more films and Vijay says, “I am getting some more offers, but I am yet to sign any of them. When it comes to acting, a lot of things come into play. I haven’t decided anything yet,” he signs off.
