Vijay Sethupathi to debut in Malayalam with Jayaram’s Marconi Mathai
Just as in Kollywood, Malayalis are also fond of Vijay Sethupathi and his films like 96 and Vikram Vedha figure in our list of favourites often. His fans in Kerala have a reason to rejoice now, as Vijay will soon debut in Malayalam and will be seen in a movie with actor Jayaram.
The film is titled Marconi Mathai and it is directed by Sanil Kalathil, an ad filmmaker turned director. He tells us that Vijay Sethupathi was excited to take up the Malayalam project. “It is a movie that belongs to the 'Vijay Sethupathi genre’ of films,” he reveals. Sanil adds that the actor plays a suspense character in the film that spreads positivity across the people around. “In this world we see many people who are good at problem solving and spreading happiness around them and he is one of them,” Sanil says. Radio also plays an integral part of the movie, he mentions.
A family love story, Marconi Mathai will see Jayaram playing an ex-military man who works as a security at a co-operative bank in a rural village. “He falls in love with Anna, a sweeper at the bank. The story revolves around the romance between Anna and Mathai. So, the caption of the film is Thokkinu Choolinodu Thonnunna Pranayam (When a gun falls in love with a broom),” explains Sanil, whose debut movie was Uthara.
The film will be multi-lingual and will be made in Tamil and Malayalam, with Goa, Changanassery, Ernakulam and Chennai as the locations. It will go on floors on January 11. “Actors Nedumudi Venu, Aju Varghese, Hareesh Kanaran, Srinda, Sidharth Siva, Gregory and Mamukoya will also be part of the cast,” says Sanil.
