Vijay Moolan realises his dream with 'Odu Raja Odu'

Cinema has always been a dream for Angamaly native Vijay Moolan, one of the heirs of Moolans group of Companies.

Despite spending most of his life shuttling between Kerala and abroad managing the family business in the Gulf, the businessman in his 30s has always held his film dreams close to his heart. That’s why August 17 will be truly special for him as it marks the release of his first Tamil movie,

Vijay, who did his schooling and engineering in the US, says he was always been interested in photography and movies. On his journey as a businessman to a film producer, Vijay, who did his MBA from Wales University in UK, says, "I work for my dad and draw a monthly salary. I'm very proud of the fact that it was the monthly salaries accumulated that helped me fund my first movie, as I wanted to be a producer by around the age of 30."

Vijay says that through the upcoming movie, he has taken his first step towards the distant dream of creating a reputed media production banner. The comedy thriller, which is directed by Jathin Sanker Raj and Nishant Ravindran is an “outcome of hard work of more than two years”, he says. The National Award-winner Guru Somasundaram and Lakshmi Priya play the leads. Popular actors Charu Haasan, Nassar, and Simran, along with her husband Deepak will be seen in pivotal roles in the film that will narrate four parallel stories happening in one day.

Ask him why he chose to do his debut movie in Tamil and Vijay says, “These types of experimental movies have better commercial encouragement and reach among the Tamil audience. The film features experienced actors in important roles even though the crew including directors are debutants.” The movie also has five songs composed by debutant Thosh, who was a student of AR Rahman.

Vijay is now eagerly looking forward to the release of the movie, which he says is “a group effort by my friends and I, who worked behind the screens”. “The movie is distributed under the banner

Vijay says his next project is a big-budget trilingual, which has Madhavan in the lead, and it is to be produced under his father's banner Varghese Moolan Talkies.Another Malayalam movie is under discussion with Antony Varghese who played Pepe in Angamaly Diaries as the lead, and is being planned for next year,” he concludes.
