Veteran actor D Philip breathed his last on Sunday (June 12) in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 79. According to the reports, D Philip was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues for the past few days.
Hailing from Thiruvalla, D Philip was a prominent theatre actor during the starting stages of his career and also was a popular presence in Kalidasa Kalakendra and Kerala People’s Arts Club, shortly known as KPAC.
Starting his acting career as a student of the veteran stage and film actor PJ Antony, D Philip has acted in over 50 Malayalam films and has also bagged the State Award in the year 1986 for the stage play ‘Rainbow’. The play was organized by Kalidasa Kalakendra.

D Philip has also conquered the hearts of several Malayali audiences with his popular movie roles in several superhit Malayalam movies. Some of his most notable works in movies include the Mammootty starrer ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’, ‘Vettam’, ‘Onnaman’, ‘Pazhassi Raja’, ‘Time’, ‘Ezhupunnatharakan’, and the
Mohanlal starrer action entertainer ‘Onnaman’.
Apart from playing popular roles in movies, D Philip has also co-produced the classic movie ‘Kolangal’ which was directed by the renowned filmmaker KG George and was released in the year 1986.
D Philip has also entertained the TV audiences with his prominent roles in several popular TV serials such as ‘Sthree’, ‘Swamy Ayyappan’, and the mystery fiction series ‘Kadamattathu Kathanar’.
D Philip’s demise is literally a loss for both the Tv industry and the movie industry and his popular roles will always remain in the hearts of the Malayali audiences.
