The film, directed by Rahman brothers Shinos and

Sajas

, won three Kerala State Film awards this year, with Swasika bagging the Best Character Actress award and the Rahman brothers winning the honours for Best Film and Best Screenplay. The makers had earlier told us that the movie is inspired from Indira Parthasarathy's play Poovai Porthiya Udalgal.

PK Sreenivasan in his post, wrote, "Indira Parthasarathy, who is 91 years old now has no idea about his play being adapted to a movie and it isn't fair."

When contacted, Shinos explained that one should only make such claims after watching the movie. "It was us who revealed that Vasanthi evolved from the thoughts we had after translating Indira Parthasarathy's play into Malayalam for our work. Except for a few of our friends, Censor Board members, the jury members of Kerala State Film awards and the audience of a film festival in Thrissur, no one else has seen the movie," he says. "Every writer and maker would been influenced by what they read and write. It's the same in our case. But the film is an original screenplay and not an adaptation."

Vasanthi, according to Sajas, is a journey of a woman who travels through the lives of many men at different points of her life. "The making style of the movie that has a play as an important aspect, is experimental. This is our second film. Our first movie Kalipattam was made in 2015. We began Vasanthi with the funds we got from that movie. Later, Siju Wilson turned producer for the film. We are really happy about our movie being recognised," he had told us soon after the movie won the awards.
