It’s been a jam-packed year for
Tovino Thomas. He has already finished shooting for four movies including Maari 2 with Dhanush, and has now signed up for National Award winner
Salim Ahamed’s upcoming film titled
And The Oscar Goes To
.
Salim Ahamed, whose previous films included Adaminte Makan Abu and Pathemari, tells us that his next film is “about the life of a Malayali director, who struggles to make his first movie”. “Tovino will be playing the role of the filmmaker while
Anu Sithara plays his friend, who supports him throughout his struggles,” he says.
The team will start shooting the movie, which is set in the current era, by September this year. Interestingly, Los Angeles, US, and Canada are two of the locations. “The movie’s story also touches upon the subject of Oscar and hence the foreign locations. We are also looking for an actress based in Los Angeles to play one of the lead roles,” says the director.
Meanwhile, Tovino, who is currently in the US, says he’s chuffed to be working with Salim Ahamed. “I had watched Adaminte Makan while I was frequenting film festivals and his other films in theatre. He’s also someone who I have a good rapport with. When we met each other at Filmfare awards two years ago, we could instantly strike up a conversation and spent a long time discussing films. So, in a way I’m excited to be part of this film,” says the actor, who won the Critics Award for Best Actor at this year’s Filmfare awards for his role in Maayanadhi.
On playing a filmmaker in the movie, he says, “I haven’t heard the entire story yet but from what I did, I believe there are bit and pieces of Salimikka’s struggles as a filmmaker embedded in the story.”
Apart from
Tovino
and Anu Sithara, the movie will also have Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Salim Kumar in important roles. Other locations of the film include Kochi, Chennai and a yet-to-be-decided rustic locale.
