The first week of May 2022, was quite eventful for Malayalam cinema. From Manju Warrier signing her next Tamil filming, to her lodging a case against filmmaker Sanal Kumar, here’s who and what made headlines in Malayalam cinema last week.

Kerala Police on Thursday issued a 'blue corner' notice against Malayalam actor-producer Vijay Babu, who is accused of sexual assault of a female actor. Vijay Babu is reportedly on the run and believed to be in Dubai. And Kochi City Police Commissioner C.H. Nagaraju said the 'blue corner' notice has been issued and all steps will be done to bring him back at the earliest. Vijay Babu has been absconding following the complaint filed by the actor on April 22.

Superstar Suresh Gopi returned to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) ending his over two-decades-long bitterness with the organization. Suresh Gopi stayed away from AMMA, following a dispute he had with the organization during a Gulf programme in the late 1990s. On Sunday (May 1), the superstar attended a medical camp ‘Unarvu’ set up by AMMA, for which he was the chief guest. The actor-politician received a warm welcome from the association.

Acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan was arrested on Thursday (May 5) after actress Manju Warrier lodged a complaint saying that the filmmaker has been blackmailing her and maligning her reputation via social media. Minutes before a team of police personnel took him into custody based on the actress' complaint registered at Elamakkara police station in Kochi, the director appeared on Facebook live claiming that his life was at risk and some people were forcibly trying to take him away. The filmmaker was later granted bail.

Manju Warrier is headlining Santosh Sivan’s directorial upcoming film ‘Jack N Jill’. The trailer of the film was launched this week by Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar. “Out there for everyone to see the magic they have created! Congratulations and all the love & luck to the entire team!♥️♥️♥️ #JackNJill,” Karan Johar said, launching the trailer. The trailer has managed to grab the attention of the audience.

Manju Warrier has signed her second Tamil film. The actress who debuted in Tamil with Dhanush starrer ‘Asuran’ has now joined hands with actor Ajith Kumar for the upcoming film tentatively titled ‘AK61’. Helmed by H Vinoth, the film has gone on floors in Hyderabad, and Manju Warrier will be joining the sets soon. The upcoming film is touted to be a heist thriller.
