It was almost exactly a year ago, when Sudev Nair was recuperating from a torn ligament on his leg and his parents had come over to help him out, that he started making scripted videos with them. The short videos showed hilarious domestic moments with them and have been hugely popular on social media, receiving lakhs of hits. This Onam, he introduced a special guest - his grandmother - in a video that has received nearly 4 lakh views.

“My parents were enthusiastic to do it. It was such fun making it with them. Once I recovered and got back to work, of course, I was not able to do it. But this time, I’d planned to go home for Onam - since I was very keen to have my mother’s amazing sadya - and decided to make this, roping in my grandmother,” says the Thuramukham actor.

The videos, shot on Sudev’s phone, usually have his mother catching Sudev and his father in the act of doing something mischievous. The latest one has both of his parents feeling sheepish in front of his ‘ammomma’, after taking more than their share of chakkaravaratti, and the older woman taking it from them and handing it lovingly to her grandson.

“My ammomma is 90 and she likes to get dressed up, so she was happy to do it. She followed instructions very well. The Onam video has received the most feedback with people saying it was very relatable; feeling like it is something that could happen in their own homes. And also, that it made them emotional for their time with their own grandmother,” says Sudev, who is in charge of the videos from concept to completion, including editing. His favourite video, apart from the latest, is the one where his mother catches his father and Sudev drinking alcohol, while the three of them are out at dinner.

Break in Telugu
Soon after Onam, Sudev has had to get back to the shoot of Telugu film Devara, which has Jr Ntr, Janhvi Kapoor in the lead, and also has Saif Ali Khan and Prakash Raj. “After Bheeshma Parvam and Thuramukham, I got noticed, especially in the Telugu industry and have done four movies there. I cannot talk about my role in Devara, but can only say that I’m playing a primary character,” he says.
