Singer Edava Basheer, who popularized ‘Ganamela’ in Kerala passed away on Saturday night as he collapsed during a live music performance. He was 78. As per the reports,

Edava Basheer

was rushed to the hospital immediately after he collapsed on stage but his life could not be saved. The incident took place at 9:30 pm night.

Edava Basheer was performing at the venue of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Blue Diamond Orchestra and the singer was crooning the popular Hindi song of KJ Yesudas ‘Maane Ho Tum’ when he suddenly felt chest pain resulting in him collapsing on the stage in front of the live audience.

Basheer has sung a couple of movie songs but he was most famous for his stage performances and he also introduced several modern musical instruments during ‘Gana Mela’. He also kickstarted the ‘Sangeethalaya’ music troupe where many musical instruments from abroad were used.

Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Edava, Basheer made his debut in the Malayalam film industry as a playback singer for the film ‘Raghu Vamsham’. Edava Basheer’s most popular song is ‘Azhithira Malakal Azhalinte Malakal’ which he sang along with Vani Jayaram for the movie ‘Mukkuvane Snehicha Bootham’

Edava Basheer was currently residing in ‘Sangeethalaya’ house in Kollam and is survived by his wives Rasheeda and Rehna along with his children Ullas, Beema, Umesh, and Ushus Seetta.
