Shine Tom Chacko, who was last seen in Indrajith-starrer Masala Republic, is busy these days, doing his act, on the stage! Shine is gearing up for his Broadway debut with Vijaykumar Prabhakaran’s Azeezinte Varthamanam, which is the theatrical adaptation of writer N S Madhavan’s story Mumbai. Shine plays the titular role of Azeez, a native of Malabar who heads to Mumbai to work as a stock exchange operator.
Azeez’s plight when he applies for a passport to go abroad for work will be enacted in the play.
“Though I had previously been part of plays during my school days, Azeezinte Varthamanam will be my first attempt at professional theatre,” says Shine. It was after the shoot of Rajeev Ravi’s Annayum Rassolum that Vijaykumar, who did a cameo in the movie (and other movies like Second Show and Masala Republic), first bounced off the idea of doing theatre to him.
“We were looking for the right opportunity to start working on it. Though I got busy with a lot of other projects, it was after Masala Republic that I got a brief break before the shoot of my next movie. That’s when I decided to concentrate on the play,” says the actor, who will be joined by five other artistes, including actress Parvathi Menon, in the play.
After Azeezinte Varthamanam, which will be staged in Kochi this month, Shine will start shooting for Vinu Joseph’s untitled movie that has Sunny Wayne and Biju Menon in the leads. Jijo Antony’s action thriller based on jail inmates and newcomer Sethunath’s London Batheri are the other projects lined up for the actor.
