Sheela reveals that she was offered the role of Bhargavi in ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’!

Legendary actress Sheela is making headlines lately, thanks to her latest release ‘Anuragam’. She has recently opened up about the films she regret turning down. Sheela was one of the busiest actors in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, and it is no secret that she used to shuttle from one set to another inorder to fulfill the projects she has committed.

Sheela has recently revealed that she turned down ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’, Malayalam cinema’s first horror thriller, because of her tight schedule. The legendary actress divulged that the makers first approached her for the dates, but she couldn’t sign the dotted lines due to a clash in her call sheets. If not, Sheela would have portrayed Bhargavi!

Later Vijaya Nirmala roped in to play the role of Bhargavi. Released in 1964, ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’ was helmed by A Vincent, and the film featured Madhu, Vijaya Nirmala, and Prem Nazir in the lead roles.

Meanwhile, Sheela also revealed that she was offered a film based on Madhavikutty’s life, and the writer too was thrilled that the legendary actress signed it, however, it didn’t materialize.

Actor-filmmaker Sheela is one of the most accomplished actors in the history of Malayalam cinema. She has starred in many iconic films including ‘Chemmeen’, ‘Kallichellamma’, ‘Akale’, ‘Oru Penninte Kadha’, Sarsaiya’, ‘Yakshaganam’, ‘Ummachu’, among others. A recipient of National Film award, Sheela has also won several Kerala state film awards. She was also honoured with JC Daniel award. She has set many records in the industry, including being one of the highest paid stars during the 1970s, and she was even paid more than her male counterparts!
