Shankar Ramakrishnan remembers Madhavikutty

Madhavikutty passed away on May 31, 2009.
May 31st marks the remembrance of Madhavikutty aka Kamala Surayya aka Kamala Das. Today marks the 14th death anniversary of the celebrated author-poet. Filmmaker and scriptwriter Shankar Ramakrishnan has remembered Madhavikutty and penned a heartfelt note celebrating her life and work.

In a note shared on Facebook, Shankar Ramakrishnan wrote, “It’s 14 years today we bid adieu to the strongest voices in our literary world. Unparalleled Kamala Suraiyya, Kamala Das , Madhavikutty. You are forever. One of the greatest of our times. A kind flame fumes within.”

He further added, “Remembering your words.

“You planned to tame a swallow, to hold her

In the long summer of your love so that she would forget

Not the raw seasons alone, and the homes left behind, but
Tired of too many ads?go ad free now

Also her nature, the urge to fly, and the endless

Pathways of the sky.”

Shankar Ramakrishnan also expressed his admiration and said, “Nothing could tame you Ma’am, mirrors will shatter and the kind night will erase the waters of narcissism and love. Ode’ . Madhavikutty is one of the most celebrated writers in Malayalam. Her eventful life has also made it to the silver screen. In 2018, director Kamal made ‘Aami’, a biographical film based on the life of Madhavikutty. Manju Warrier essayed the role of Madhavikutty in the film.
